Production: Broadway Tonight’s “Summer of ’42” at Mitchell Hall Theatre Director: Greg White Scenic Design: Christopher Domanski Costume Design: Caitlin Graham Lighting Design: Ellen Schmidt Photos: Wendy Mutz

This production was a combination of bittersweet memories of adolescence combined with bright, colorful musical numbers, so I had to come up with a palette that would work for both. Three of these pictures are from the song “Oh Gee, I Love My G.I.” The stars are overlapping Rosco star gobos on top of R125 and R126. I made the stripes by overlapping a fixture of R27 with a fixture of no color Rosco bars gobo. The R05 fill light got me through both the main parts of the show as well as the more showy musical interludes. It gave a nostalgic summery feel, and it worked beautifully on the actors’ skin. I had R371 in the high sides to add some highlights in the beach scenes, but it worked equally well in night scenes, as shown in the photo with the moon. Additional color in that photo is R125 and R382/R113 on the cyc, R80 on stage, and R08 in the moon gobo.
